This is a video about A.Skate, a non profit group that hosts skateboarding clinics across the country where kids with autism get a chance to just hang and be social through the world of skateboarding.
Amazing. I was led to them through Twitter, which brought me to this video. And this video? I say this with the barest, down to the bone honesty I have: It changed my life.
As a mother coming to terms with this, it meant the world to see a woman that looked and sounded like me talking about a son that looked and sounded like mine. She’s young, sometimes unsure, but steadfast and determined. She captured life with a child on the spectrum beautifully. I literally watched it on loop eight times and cried through half of it. This video helped in getting me to a place where I was okay. We’re so okay, kid.
“Our children are outcasts…we’re the outcasts. We’re this group of parents that don’t know where to go.”
And she helped create a place for us to go.
